🌎 Works in Every State
The USDA Afterschool Meals Program (CACFP At Risk) is a federal program that operates nationwide. Each state has its own agency that manages it:
- In Georgia, it’s run through Bright from the Start.
- In Texas, it’s the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA).
- In Florida, it’s the Department of Health.
- In California, it’s the Department of Education.
No matter where you’re located, your nonprofit can qualify, the only difference is which state agency you apply through once your setup is complete.
⚠️ Important to Know
- Your nonprofit must be registered in the state you plan to operate in.
- Each site you serve (schools, afterschool programs, community centers, churches) must be located in an eligible area (typically 50% or more of children qualify for free/reduced lunch).
- Reimbursements, compliance, and vendor partnerships are all state managed but federally funded , meaning the money comes from USDA, but the paperwork goes through your state.
